If you’re looking for a beach day with a wild twist, Seitan Limania should be at the top of your list. Just 35 minutes from Chania, this dramatic cove on the Akrotiri Peninsula has become one of Crete’s most talked-about hidden gems. Picture white limestone cliffs, a winding S-shaped inlet, and crystal-clear turquoise water made for swimming and cliff diving.
But heads up — this beach makes you work for it. There’s a winding mountain road, a short but steep hike, and zero beach services. So come prepared, pack smart, and get ready for one of the most unforgettable swims in Greece.

📍 How to Get to Seitan Limania
The beach is located about 22 kilometers (13 miles) from Chania. You’ve got three ways to reach it:
🚗 By Car
Driving is the most flexible option. The last part of the drive is narrow and steep with sharp turns and no guardrails, so take it slow and stay alert. Honk before sharp corners and consider renting a compact car. Scooters are possible for experienced drivers only.
- If the parking lot is full, park along the roadside
- Use rocks behind the tires for extra safety
🚕 By Taxi
A taxi from Chania or the airport costs around €40–50 one way. You can either arrange your return trip in advance or call about an hour before you’re ready to leave. This is a great option if you don’t want to drive but still want privacy and comfort.
🚌 By Bus (High Season Only)
From May to September, there’s a direct bus from Chania to Seitan Limania once a week. Tickets cost around €3–5. Buy your ticket at the Chania Bus Station or check the Chania KTEL schedule.
🚶 Note: Regardless of how you get there, you’ll need to hike the final 10–20 minutes down to the beach. The path is rocky and steep, so it’s not suitable for young children or anyone with limited mobility. Proper footwear is a must.
🥾 The Hike to the Beach
There are two paths from the parking lot:
🐐 The “Goat Trail” (Right Side)
- Steep, direct, and fast
- Takes you straight down to the beach
- Not for the faint of heart — no handrails
🌀 The Gorge Trail (Left Side)
- Slightly longer but more gradual
- Switchback trail that passes through the gorge
- Ideal for the way back up
Both trails take about 15–20 minutes, and both require sturdy shoes. No flip-flops. Go slowly and watch for loose rocks.

🏖️ What to Expect at the Beach
This is an unorganized beach, so there are no sunbeds, umbrellas, shops, or restrooms. Just cliffs, pebbles, sea, and sky. It’s also a popular hangout for Cretan kri-kri goats, who may charm you or try to steal your snacks.
Seitan Limania is best for:
- Swimming (deep water right off the shore)
- Cliff diving (jump from the right-hand rocks, about 5 meters high)
- Sunbathing (bring shade or come early or late)
- Photography (the S-curve is iconic)
The name “Seitan Limania” means “Devil’s Harbor” — a nod to the rough seas it can sometimes have. On windy days, swimming here is not recommended.

🧃 Food & Refreshments
There are no food services on the beach, but you’ve got two options:
1. Bring Your Own
Pack snacks, water, and a picnic. Don’t forget a bag for your trash.
2. Call Seitan Delivery
This family-run canteen sits just above the beach and offers free delivery of sandwiches, salads, snacks, and drinks down to the shore. You can also stop by the canteen itself for a heartier meal at shaded picnic tables. Expect local meat, honey, and fresh cheese pies — all made in-house. Call them here.
