🧭 How to Get There
We recommend starting in Fira and ending in Oia. It’s the easier route — more downhill and a gentler incline.
🚗 By Car:
Park in Fira, either by the Cathedral of Thira or near the high school (both free). After the hike, take a taxi or bus back to collect your car.
🚌 By Bus:
From Oia, head to the main bus station for the return to Fira. Buses cost around €1.60, run every 30–60 minutes, and take 20 minutes. Buy your ticket directly from the driver (cash only). Expect long lines right after sunset — grab dinner and wait them out.
🚖 By Taxi or App:
Taxis are limited on the island (fewer than 50 total). Use the FreeNow app or ask your hotel to book in advance. Expect to pay between €15–25 for the return.
🏛 Route Highlights
Start in Fira, Santorini’s capital. Keep the sea on your left and follow the cobbled streets past the iconic Three Bells of Fira and through Firostefani, a quieter extension of town lined with hotels and cafes.
After 40 minutes, you’ll reach Imerovigli — the highest point of the trail and one of the best photo ops. Don’t miss the Church of Anastasi or the cliffside paths with infinity-pool views.
💥 Optional Detour:
Take the path to Skaros Rock, the ruins of a 13th-century Venetian fortress. The roundtrip takes 30–60 minutes and offers incredible views of the caldera.
Back on the main route, continue past Prophet Elias Chapel and descend to the main road. Stay left until you see a roadside shop. Nearby, a gravel path takes you uphill to the Assumption of Virgin Mary Chapel, where you’ll spot Oia in the distance.
The final leg descends along a stone trail into Oia. Explore the winding streets, art galleries, and sea-view restaurants. If you time it right, end your journey at Castle of Agios Nikolaos to catch Oia’s famous sunset.
🏊 Bonus:
From the castle, walk down around 250 steps to Amoudi Bay for a post-hike swim or a seafood meal by the water.

🍴 Food & Facilities
There are plenty of cafés and restaurants in Fira, Imerovigli, and Oia, but nothing in between. Stock up on snacks and water before leaving Imerovigli. There are no public restrooms along the route — plan accordingly.
Favorites include:
- Nikolas (Fira) – classic taverna fare
- Kastro (Oia) – caldera views and Greek specialties
💡 Insider Tips

- Bring more water than you think — there’s zero shade for most of the route
- Wear real shoes — sneakers or hiking sandals, no flip flops
- Download your map before you go — signal can be weak
- Best photo spots: Imerovigli, Skaros Rock, and Castle of Oia
