Chasing Cycladic Dreams: My 14-Day Journey

“I spent two weeks burning through cash from Athens to Santorini so you can decide if the ‘mythological heights’ are worth the ferry vertigo or if you should just stay home.”

The Grand Cycladic Ego-Trip: My Story

If you’ve been following my journey, you know I have a low tolerance for logistics and a high demand for “effortless aesthetic.” This 14-day odyssey was meticulously crafted to hit every landmark that justifies a flight across the world, but at a pace that didn’t make me want to cry in a ferry terminal.

I avoided the usual travel meltdowns thanks to a string of private transfers and high-speed ferries. Honestly? Paying someone to worry about the clock so I could worry about the view was the smartest move I made.

Days 1-3: Rocks, Ruins, and Rural Flexing

I landed in Athens, where a private driver whisked me away because I’m far too important for the Metro. I spent the afternoon in Plaka, pretending to find “vibrant markets” while actually just looking for a gyro that didn’t cost fifteen Euro.

The next day, I joined an Acropolis walking tour – it’s a lot of scaffolding, honestly. However, having a pro explain the birth of democracy with mythological funny stories made the four hours pass without realizing the tour was over, having me asking for more.

To wrap up the mainland, I did an 11-hour trip to Delphi. It’s the “navel of the world,” and the Temple of Apollo has an energy that even my cynical heart couldn’t ignore. We even stopped in Arachova, a mountain village so picturesque it looked like a movie set.

Days 4-6: Mykonian Glamour and Luxury Sails

Day 4: High-speed ferry to Mykonos. My accommodation here was the kind of whitewashed dream you see in magazines. I did the sunset stroll in Chora to Little Venice—yes, it’s crowded, but seeing the sky turn that shade of pink over the windmills is worth the elbow-to-elbow combat.

The highlight, though, was a luxury cruise to Delos. Exploring a UNESCO World Heritage Site is cool, but snorkeling in the azure waters of Rhenia while the crew prepped a BBQ lunch on the deck? That’s the kind of “cool activity” I’m here for. It was the perfect mix of culture and absolute indulgence.

Days 7-10: Naxian Farms and Golden Sands

A quick 35-minute ferry hop brought me to Naxos, an island that feels a bit more “real.” I took a sunset mythology tour through the Venetian Old Town up to the Castle and I got the famous Portara shot—you know which one. The big marble door where the sun sets? If it’s not on your feed, did you even go to Naxos?

The tour was excellent! I love Greek mythology, I love sunsets and I won’t say no to a nice wine. I hit three birds with one stone. On Day 8, I went deeper into the island’s heart, visiting 800-year-old olive groves. We had a farm-to-table lunch in Chalki village that actually made me appreciate agriculture, followed by a tasting of the local citron liqueur.

I finished the stint with a bus tour to the Temple of Demeter and the Kouros statue, before blacking out on the sands of Plaka Beach for a day of “pure relaxation” (napping). Can’t say what I enjoyed most. I guess all of it in combination made for a memorable day.

Days 11-14: Santorini (The Expensive Finale)

The grand finale was Santorini, a 1h 25m ferry ride away. My evening tour through Oia, Firostefani, and Imerovigli was admittedly magical. We hit the peak of Prophet Elias Mountain for views that make you feel like you own the Aegean. I had to elbow some fellow tourists out of the way for a view of a blue dome but at least I did it with charm 😛 I got zero complaints and a few spectacular shots.

🔥 Essential Lady-Tip:

Day 12 was a catamaran day. Sailing to the Red and White Beaches and dipping into the volcanic hot springs. The experience is amazing but ladies! Avoid wearing white swimwear – it will get ruined!

On the last day, I went to Akrotiri. They call it the “Minoan Pompeii” and link it to Atlantis. It’s actually incredible, but by this point, my brain was 40% feta cheese and 60% white wine. My private transfer showed up on Day 14 to drag me to the airport. I left with a camera full of memories, a maxed-out credit card, and the smug satisfaction that I’ve “done” the Cyclades!
